THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF BIOMECHANICS - HELPING YOU AND YOUR HORSE
Thursday 27th February, 2014 at 7.30pm
Nottingham Trent University, Brackenhurst Campus

Leading Equine and Human Sports Scientist– Russell Guire – brought learning to life during a fascinating and informative evening lecture at Nottingham Trent University’s Brackenhurst campus on Thursday 27th February 2014.

Attendees travelled to Brackenhurst from the East Midlands and beyond to attend the lecture on The Practical Application of Biomechanics. Russell discussed how biomechanics can help both the horse and rider improve in performance and achieve goals – and how it’s an invaluable application in maintaining soundness in the sport horse.

Specializing in horse and rider performance analysis, Russell works with the British Equestrian Federation dressage, show jumping, eventing and para-equestrian dressage teams. He’s also worked with the Federation Equestrian International (FEI), British Vaulting and British Horse Trials Driving teams.

During the course of the evening, Russell gave his perspective on the latest research in this interesting field. He explored training and its effects on the horse and supported his thinking using high speed video clips taken during his involvement at London 2012 and Badminton Horse Trials.

With many years of experience with horses, Russell regularly works with leading riders and organisations. In 2006, he founded Centaur Biomechanics specializing in performance analysis to aid improvements in both the performance of horse and rider.

Hoyland Event Director, Jill Hoyland said: “Biomechanics is a key area of interest within the equine sector – and Russell gave a stimulating and thought provoking lecture on the subject. It was much appreciated by the close to capacity audience of equine enthusiasts, staff and students from the University.”
